Giles SwayneGZ122
Solo cello, SSATBB choir | Duration 2 minutes

On April 19th 2012, when Giles Swayne was Composer-in-residence at Clare College, Cambridge, Rebecca Chamberlin, a third-year undergraduate of the college, was killed in a car crash on her way to Oxford with the other members of the College rowing team. That evening, Swayne wrote this short setting of the poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye – the simplicity of which is set off and enhanced by the plangent lines of the solo cello.
